What skills will we work on?

  • Technique checkpoints, including unit turn and letter C
  • Serving with a continuous motion from ready position.
  • Volley with confidence
  • Ralling cross court or down the line
  • Play a match , call in or out and keep track of the score

Equipment

  • Hitting Tee (Topspin Pro) – Players will learn forehand and backhand checkpoints
  • Backboards – Players will learn to prepare their racquet early
  • Wall – Players will volley on the full, and prepare racquet early for rallies.
  • Ball Machines -Players will start to have a go at the bailey method footwork.

Red 2 Characteristics

Players in red 2 have good control over the ball. They can rally 10+ shots with ease using a mix of forehand and backhand. They return to ready position after every shot and recover to the middle of the court. They can catch, and tap and catch and self rally with ease. They can rally 10+ shots on the backboards and the wall. They are starting to volley 5-10 shots on the wall keeping it off the ground. They have good skills in tennis already and we are refining their technique and getting it perfect before making the big jump to orange 1 level with the much bouncier orange ball.

How to level up to Orange 1?

It generally takes 1 year to pass each level. Although it depends how often you train. We recommend that red 2 players also do squad and hotshots matchplay to get faster results.

  • Can rally 10 shots cross court (forehand & backhand)
  • Can serve cross court, and place it to opponents forehand or backhand.
  • Can volley the ball back to a coach and have a rally.
  • Can Play a match, can confidently call in and out, and keep the score using 15 30 40 game.
  • Can volley against the wall keeping it off the ground
  • Can demonstrate all technique checkpoints
  • Can do a unit turn and letter c on the backboards
  • Can catch with ease, and tap and catch
  • Can self rally with ease
  • Serve should be a continuous swing from ready position, not a salute.

Come to social tennis and ask for an assessment if you feel your child meets the above requirements and you want to level up to orange 1.
