DESCRIPTION

Orange 2 Level

Age: Best suited for age 9+ Graduates from Orange 1 level. Or beginners aged 13+ can start here and catch up their skills.

Court Size: Full court 3/4 length over the big net. Using an orange ball.

Player Characteristics

Orange 2 players have great control over the ball and are starting to develop some power. They might even be starting to learn topspin. They are mostly using a unit turn and letter c during the rallies and matches.

Equipment

Hitting Tees (Topspin Pros) – Players will learn how to create topspin on the ball.

Backboard: Players will get repetition preparing the racquet early and doing a unit turn and letter c. Plus grip change between forehand and backhand shots.

Wall – Players will volley further back from the wall and use a mix of forehand and backhand volley. Plus continue to prepare early for groundstroke rallies.

Ball machines – Players should start to remember the names of their favourite Bailey method footwork and be able to do it with some prompting.

Serving – Players should be serving continuously from the ready position and know a serving routine. They should almost be serving with continental grip if not already.

Returning – Players will learn a returning routine including step and split.

Volley – They should be able to volley to a partner on the full and maintain a rally with a vollier at the net.

Matchplay – They should be confident in calling in or out, know the rules and can keep track of the score with 15 30 40 game.

How to level up?

It generally takes 1 year to pass each level however it depends how often you train. We recommend orange 2 players to do hotshots matchplay and squad for faster results. and to prepare them for potentially playing in a team when reaching green level.

  • Can hit 7/10 serves to their opponents forehand or backhand.
  • Can rally 10 shots cross court holding 3/4 depth. forehand and backhand.
  • Can volley to a partner on the full, and do a volley rally with a player at the baseline.
  • They use a unit turn and the letter c in their rallies and matches.
  • Have increased power and control

The green ball will bounce MUCH higher in the next level. So its important to have all techniques mastered before moving up. You may also want to buy a graphite racquet because the green ball is heavier.

If your child meets these requirements, attend social tennis and ask for an assessment. We are happy to check on your child’s progress.
